A dramatic musical based on the novel “Noli Me Tangere” by Jose Rizal.
Place: Manila, Capital of the Philippines, and San Diego, a small town not far from the capital.
Time: 1887
Crisostomo Ibarra returns home to the Philippines after having been educated in Europe, not knowing the true fate of his father. He rekindles his childhood love for Maria Clara, and with a burning desire to help his people, intends to build a school. However the Franciscan priests and Spanish authorities stand in his way. Throughout the musical there is an underlying question: Is true revolution found in education or violence?
“To me you seemed like a fairy, a spirit, the poetic embodiment of my homeland, simple, loving, frank, a child of the Philippines …”
– Crisostomo Ibarra, Noli Me Tangere by Jose Rizal.
To my family – I ask for your forgiveness for the pain I cause you but someday I shall have to die and it is better that I die in the plenitude of my conscience. – Jose Rizal
